This is a magnificent movie that encapsulates much of what’s going on in society. The theme repeated throughout this movie is “To Thine Own Self Be True”.
This is a clip from Douglas Sirk’s masterpiece on middle class morays and values and while it shows a rather nasty side of human behavior the movie contains an incredibly beautiful message underneath its glossy veneer. Watch the entire movie if you can. Repeated viewings are essential because at first you may think you’re watching a superficial, glossy soap opera, but it is a far more serious social commentary beneath the surface and still resonates today.
