Monday, November 2. Mercury stations direct square Saturn. There are two very distinct ways to work with transits. One is to take the transits as they exist in the sky for everyone and apply it to mundane, world events. The other more personal way is to overlay the transits on the natal chart to see in what houses they fall to ascertain where in life the transit may have more potent effect, and even more importantly, observing any natal planets and chart points they aspect using a fairly tight orb of 2-3 degrees; the tighter the better.
In the sky right now we have Mercury stationing direct today and tomorrow at 26° Libra. This happens on Election Day in the USA. The station occurs during a very tight square to transiting Saturn at 26° Capricorn. The slowness of the Mercury stations forces it to linger in aspect to Saturn from October 22 through November 10 with peak dates being 10/23, 11/1 and 11/6 although the entire period from 11/1 through 11/10 should be considered a hot zone. Mercury is the planet of communication, counting, transportation and making clear logical decisions. He also has dominion over a number of other issues such as siblings, writing, education, pets and the daily work routine. Saturn imposes limits, restrictions and is all about following the rules and protocol that often cause blocks and delays. So what we can expect as it moves direct on Election Day in aspect to Saturn is that a decision will be made, as indicated by Mercury moving forward, but because of the aspect to Saturn it may be a slow decision as there may be more ballots to count, a lag in the postal service because of transportation and communication snags or just an unexpected block or delay. Everyone wants to make sure they have dotted their “I’s” and crossed their “T’s” ensuring fair balloting and playing by the strict rules. It is important that those voting on Election Day make sure to double check how they are filling out their ballots and to be prepared for delays, mishaps and waits. Mercury has a retrograde synodic cycle that occurs every 20 years meaning that 20 years ago the trickster stationed at exactly the same degree of 29° Libra on the election of November 2000. We look back to this synodic cycle to interpret what might happen at this time period because astrological cycles repeat themes in a variety of ways. If you remember, that election between Gore and Bush was indecisive because it was so close. There was a delay in declaring a winner which wasn’t decided until December 13. We may or may not have a similar situation this year. It will all depend how close or not the actual election count is on November 3. But even if there is a clear winner there has been so much talk about voter fraud and counting that the issues from 2000 have already been reiterated whether or not they play out in the same way. That’s one way to look at this Mercury direct period in aspect to Saturn. Another way is to see where that transiting square falls in your natal chart. That will tell you where you’ll have to focus attention to improve communication skills and how to rebuild and fix communication structures that have become broken in some way. I can’t go through every permutation, but I’ll give one example. If the square is from Mercury transiting in the 1st house with Saturn transiting the 4th then the general blocks in communication would surround your mode of expression (Mercury in the 1st) vs. your Mother/Father or some other family member (Saturn in the 4th). Productively this may be someone who is doing an awful amount of paper work and gathering family records from the past in order to gain citizenship in another country or just gathering past family information for another purpose such as chronicling family history. Square aspects call for decisive action based upon a frustration and some kind or awareness whether good or bad that a certain amount of focused work needs to be done. Now, let’s add the planet Pluto to the first house of the natal chart at 28° Libra. That means the Plutonian archetype would be added to the interpretation the 1st house interpretation – the image we project, particularly to our personal mode of communication. This would add an obsessive, addictive, intense and passionate quality to this transit and you may be called upon the carpet for the way you use words to sting, being overly intense or cause subterfuge. It’s time to learn a lesson in how to transform the power of your personal communication style. I’ve got a great personal story to tell about the past 24 hours. My ascendant is 28° Libra and I have natal Venus at 0° Cancer. That is the world axis or Aries point. Planets at this point are often the archetypes for which we become known whether it is through world fame or just recognition from those in your own personal community or family. It’s how we connect to the world at large or in your immediate environment. I was born into a family that had a very famous name in the Italian bread bakery business in the New York metropolitan area. Addeo Bakers is famous city wide (and beyond) for quality Italian bread products that spans generations having begun with my Grandfather in the 1920s. I sometimes only have to mention my name and people ask, “Is that the same Addeo as the bakery?” Although I have no professional connection with the bakery I’m very proud of my brother for having taken over the business from our Father and keeping up the tradition and the great reputation of our family name. In the past couple of days Mercury regressed from 0° Scorpio to 29° Libra and was stationing smack on my Ascendant trine natal Venus. It will be there for the entire week. My brother sent me an email saying that the bakery is being advertised on huge digital screen billboards in Times Square as part of an advertising campaign run by NYCNext.org to support local family businesses throughout the city during the pandemic. The astrology is so good, Mercury (my brother) stationing direct (information and news moves forwards) conjunct my Ascendant (my immediate environment and identity) trine Venus in Cancer (the fame of the family name). The transit of Saturn in the 4th house squaring all these points adds the extra touch that I should do something with the information coming my way like write about it and use it in my work somehow so that it doesn’t just come down as some pleasant event. So that’s what I’m doing as well as helping to publicize it on line via all the social media platforms at my disposal. One has to keep the family structure on solid ground and do whatever it takes to continue the tradition. Hope this example is helpful especially to those who have knowledge of how astrology works.
