The Sun enters Taurus for the next 30 days. The Sun is our great motivator. Every 30 days our creative motivation shifts element and modality via a new sign of the zodiac. Each sign centers us, renews our spirit and makes us feel alive in a different way.
I’m a Taurus and I often have found it difficult to explain the immense, primal simplicity of the sign without making it sound dumb. Here’s a perfect example of its essence. A friend of mine brought over a fresh baked loaf of organic country bread yesterday. I woke up this morning, April 19 with the Sun just about to enter Taurus and the first thing I did was eat 3/4 of the loaf. It was so scrumptious that I couldn’t stop myself from indulging in the immense immediate gratification of eating that delicious bread. The pleasure was so intense in its simplicity. That loaf needed absolutely nothing added to it. No butter, jam, or anything to gussy it up. Pure, simple, earthy, unadorned and absolutely able to stand on its own. The deliciousness enlivened all my senses as I moaned and groaned and basked in the unabashed physicality of a basic loaf of bread. Now, there are two things going on all at once in this example. The simple pleasures of eating a staple of life combined with the gluttony of downing almost the entire loaf because it tasted so good. I wanted more and more and more and more. The gluttony and the loss of self-control of being unable to push the stop button is a little terrifying, which brings up a dual symbolic meaning of the bull. The bull sits placid and serene basking in a field under the blazing heat of day, swatting flies with its tail, chewing its cud, still and almost motionless, content and at peace communing with Mother Nature. Yet, if you rile that bull, for whatever reason, it will suddenly get up off its ass and stampede in a determined pursuit of a goal until finally exhausted, collapses in a massive heap. That’s the relentless part of the sign that doesn’t know when to stop - hence in my example that urge of not knowing when to turn off the “stop eating” valve. Food, money, luxury, possessions and pleasure are all wonderful things that make living on Earth feel so good but when taken to extremes cause gluttony, avarice, debauchery, greed, selfishness and above all materialism of the most shallow and brutally selfish kind. It can also promote the kind of person that works 24 hours a day 7 days a week just for the sake of accumulating wealth and stuff without any desire of delving into spiritual or psychological experiences on the deeper meaning of life beyond material existence. When we can combine the material world of the senses with a higher purpose then Taurus energy can ground us in the most beautiful way to experience heaven on Earth. What are your basic needs to live a happy life? How much is too much? How do you define value and substance beyond the almighty dollar and what it can buy? Inherent value and substance is something that has to be nurtured, guided and coaxed and is not always immediately tangible, though for Taurus there must be something it can hold on to physically and sensually. That is why the sign is often so tactile. It needs to experience through the body. It must come through the senses of touch, sight, smell, taste and sound. The touch of another persons hug, the sight of a glorious mountain range, the smell of a rose at the peak of its bloom, the taste of a delicious homemade meal or the sound of a glorious piece of music. Because Venus, the planetary ruler of Taurus will be traveling through this sign through May 10 it will be easier to obtain a more pure essence of what this sign means to you as an individual. This will become most clear in the house in your natal chart that contains the sign of Taurus. Each house corresponds to a different area of life. It’s easy enough to google the basic house meanings, you just need to know your birth time to find out where on the zodiacal wheel Taurus falls for you. What talent do you possess that can continue to add value to your life and with Uranus traveling in this sign through early 2026 what new breakthroughs can you make with your talent.
