The Jupiter/Pluto conjunction perfects for the third and final time this year. The other dates were April 4 and June 30. The final conjunction is the culmination of something in a more final way. We just had an election to determine the balance of power. This conjunction says that a decision has been made through the legal system to determine the direction of power to our structures and leadership. This is an aspect that has much to do with expansion of power so we have the former president trying to expand his reach beyond the limits of what may or may not be legal while we have another incoming president trying to make a new beginning with the purging of the old regime in order to make way for the new one. Mars turns direct in the next few days as well so we will start to take slow action to finally make the decision on all levels and the lunar eclipse of November 30 should bring more information to light for a final count while the Solar Eclipse on December 14 should install the new president in the white house. I would imagine Trump won’t give up until that date because that eclipse falls on his Moon and South node which would be all about making an exit from his home (the White House). That eclipse has a purging effect with his south node being involved and the image is a flushing away of the old. Donald Trump has a very powerful Mars and when it was retrograde he needed to revise his strategy for fighting. He didn’t do that and now on the direct station he may gain more power in fighting the fight in his usual way but I think it will most likely be too little too late. Still he has a great amount of fight left to do some serious damage in the transition of political power. The election isn’t over and most likely won’t be until the middle of December.
Jupiter also rules legal decisions and courts so we will see over the next month the extents and excess one can push the legal system in order to retain power. We have also seen the balance of power on the Supreme Court being pushed in one direction. There are also more decisions to be made with other very close senate races. This aspect has a great deal to do with gambling and risk taking so let’s see how far the Jupiter/Pluto conjunction can push the game of dirty politics. Let’s also see if there are some major deaths of very influential people in the vein of Ruth Bader Ginsburg or some other person of the old guard.
This conjunction is also about the amplification and spread of disease and death. The last two conjunctions also coincided with larger outbreaks of Covid. This is yet one more kick to bring us to our knees.
You thought 2020 was over? Not yet and it will go out with a MAJOR BANG!
Monday, November 2. Mercury stations direct square Saturn. There are two very distinct ways to work with transits. One is to take the transits as they exist in the sky for everyone and apply it to mundane, world events. The other more personal way is to overlay the transits on the natal chart to see in what houses they fall to ascertain where in life the transit may have more potent effect, and even more importantly, observing any natal planets and chart points they aspect using a fairly tight orb of 2-3 degrees; the tighter the better.
In the sky right now we have Mercury stationing direct today and tomorrow at 26° Libra. This happens on Election Day in the USA. The station occurs during a very tight square to transiting Saturn at 26° Capricorn. The slowness of the Mercury stations forces it to linger in aspect to Saturn from October 22 through November 10 with peak dates being 10/23, 11/1 and 11/6 although the entire period from 11/1 through 11/10 should be considered a hot zone. Mercury is the planet of communication, counting, transportation and making clear logical decisions. He also has dominion over a number of other issues such as siblings, writing, education, pets and the daily work routine. Saturn imposes limits, restrictions and is all about following the rules and protocol that often cause blocks and delays. So what we can expect as it moves direct on Election Day in aspect to Saturn is that a decision will be made, as indicated by Mercury moving forward, but because of the aspect to Saturn it may be a slow decision as there may be more ballots to count, a lag in the postal service because of transportation and communication snags or just an unexpected block or delay. Everyone wants to make sure they have dotted their “I’s” and crossed their “T’s” ensuring fair balloting and playing by the strict rules. It is important that those voting on Election Day make sure to double check how they are filling out their ballots and to be prepared for delays, mishaps and waits. Mercury has a retrograde synodic cycle that occurs every 20 years meaning that 20 years ago the trickster stationed at exactly the same degree of 29° Libra on the election of November 2000. We look back to this synodic cycle to interpret what might happen at this time period because astrological cycles repeat themes in a variety of ways. If you remember, that election between Gore and Bush was indecisive because it was so close. There was a delay in declaring a winner which wasn’t decided until December 13. We may or may not have a similar situation this year. It will all depend how close or not the actual election count is on November 3. But even if there is a clear winner there has been so much talk about voter fraud and counting that the issues from 2000 have already been reiterated whether or not they play out in the same way.
That’s one way to look at this Mercury direct period in aspect to Saturn. Another way is to see where that transiting square falls in your natal chart. That will tell you where you’ll have to focus attention to improve communication skills and how to rebuild and fix communication structures that have become broken in some way. I can’t go through every permutation, but I’ll give one example. If the square is from Mercury transiting in the 1st house with Saturn transiting the 4th then the general blocks in communication would surround your mode of expression (Mercury in the 1st) vs. your Mother/Father or some other family member (Saturn in the 4th). Productively this may be someone who is doing an awful amount of paper work and gathering family records from the past in order to gain citizenship in another country or just gathering past family information for another purpose such as chronicling family history. Square aspects call for decisive action based upon a frustration and some kind or awareness whether good or bad that a certain amount of focused work needs to be done. Now, let’s add the planet Pluto to the first house of the natal chart at 28° Libra. That means the Plutonian archetype would be added to the interpretation the 1st house interpretation – the image we project, particularly to our personal mode of communication. This would add an obsessive, addictive, intense and passionate quality to this transit and you may be called upon the carpet for the way you use words to sting, being overly intense or cause subterfuge. It’s time to learn a lesson in how to transform the power of your personal communication style.
I’ve got a great personal story to tell about the past 24 hours. My ascendant is 28° Libra and I have natal Venus at 0° Cancer. That is the world axis or Aries point. Planets at this point are often the archetypes for which we become known whether it is through world fame or just recognition from those in your own personal community or family. It’s how we connect to the world at large or in your immediate environment. I was born into a family that had a very famous name in the Italian bread bakery business in the New York metropolitan area. Addeo Bakers is famous city wide (and beyond) for quality Italian bread products that spans generations having begun with my Grandfather in the 1920s. I sometimes only have to mention my name and people ask, “Is that the same Addeo as the bakery?” Although I have no professional connection with the bakery I’m very proud of my brother for having taken over the business from our Father and keeping up the tradition and the great reputation of our family name. In the past couple of days Mercury regressed from 0° Scorpio to 29° Libra and was stationing smack on my Ascendant trine natal Venus. It will be there for the entire week. My brother sent me an email saying that the bakery is being advertised on huge digital screen billboards in Times Square as part of an advertising campaign run by NYCNext.org to support local family businesses throughout the city during the pandemic. The astrology is so good, Mercury (my brother) stationing direct (information and news moves forwards) conjunct my Ascendant (my immediate environment and identity) trine Venus in Cancer (the fame of the family name). The transit of Saturn in the 4th house squaring all these points adds the extra touch that I should do something with the information coming my way like write about it and use it in my work somehow so that it doesn’t just come down as some pleasant event. So that’s what I’m doing as well as helping to publicize it on line via all the social media platforms at my disposal. One has to keep the family structure on solid ground and do whatever it takes to continue the tradition.
Hope this example is helpful especially to those who have knowledge of how astrology works.
There’s an important and volatile full moon in Taurus culminating late Friday night into early Saturday morning that has all the earmarks of an “October Surprise”. Normally a Taurus Full Moon lights up issues surrounding material security. This one is no different in essence, but the form it takes may not be the most comfortable, soothing or conservative energy to enhance or shift that security. The degree of this full moon occurs at an exact conjunction with the planet Uranus. Uranian themes color the entire weekend with ramifications that last into the future. The style with which Uranus colors life events are to expect the unexpected, a roller coaster ride, chaos, things reverse and move in an opposite direction, a 180° shift, divorces, separations, earthquakes, sudden out of the blue events, break-ups, break-outs, break-downs break-throughs, enlightenment and epiphanies. Just last night here in NYC high winds sent a crane tossing and turning high above a tall skyscraper, knocking debris off that came falling from the sky. Luckily no one was hurt but this is the type of energy of which I’m talking. Also, the temperatures here in the northeast are plummeting at least 30° in a short amount of time and a cold wet rain is turning into snow in many areas with the sudden and shocking shift in temperature.
Personally, these disruptive events happen in the house that the full moon occurs. This is an erratic energy and we are taken off guard by what the surprise is, so in some ways it’s hard to be prepared. Yet, the catchphrase “expect the unexpected” is the best way to deal with things and therefore it is a highly predictive type of energy. Let’s see how this plays out on the political front with Election Day only 4 days away concurrent with a Mercury direct station.
This also can be the type of awareness that shakes and knocks you out of a rut that you’ve been stuck in for a very long time. If you’ve been sinking in quicksand then revelations occurring now may be just the right thing to shock you into an important shift and change. The Taurus energy this time around is about not being complacent. It’s essential to make change to the status quo. Business as usual is over and you may need some kind of revolutionary energy to deliver the freedom needed to break you away from the shackles that bind you to a burdensome material existence. It’s about a reinvention of the material world and its resources that support you. Taurus is a very physical and body oriented sign therefore much of this energy may be sourced through the body in terms of diet, physical activity, nutrition and disease. As a money-oriented sign let’s continue to monitor the stock markets and our own personal bank accounts. On a more deeply psychological level pay attention to your inner self worth and self-esteem by being more creatively inventive about your innate talents, resources and gifts. You may be surprised as to what your true calling really is as you learn to apply those talents in new and innovative ways.
One last image is that of an electric lightning bolt thrown from the sky thrusting into a giant redwood tree. Instead of splicing it in half and burning it down there is a reanimation of life and matter that brings a rebirth. Dr. Frankenstein tried to bring the dead back to life with dire consequences. It’s not about playing God in a way where you are looking for unbridled power outside yourself but about looking to see how your inner God/Goddess can enlighten the power within making it sourced from the heart center thereby benefiting yourself and society at large.
While the Sun squares Pluto all day it will be of utmost importance to use the diplomacy of the Libra Moon to continually find balance. Negotiations may be fraught with more intensity than usual, so it's wise to gain perspective while navigating challenging confrontations and deal making decisions. Apply a lighter, more delicate touch while assuming a determined stance. It's important to make your points firmly and strongly but don't over push or demonstrate desperation. If up against a road black better to back off and reflect. It may be more important to re-freshen strategies.
Because the Moon has a deadish feeling in its balsamic phase, let certain things peel away in preparation for a clearer beginning on Friday's Libra New Moon. We are in the Libra time of year but today has a Scorpionic tinge with Pluto in strong aspect to the Sun along with Mercury in Scorpio moving slowly backwards in the sky as it only turned retrograde Tuesday night.
Intuitions, feelings and hunches swirl in the air and heart. There may be a twinge of sentimentality as memories of the dead or the past invade the thoughts. For many these weeks can reveal secrets long hidden that suddenly and/or shockingly come to light. If these revelations are positive then handle the energy wisely and productively, but if the fall-out from these revelations is more disturbing then it is important to process the information mentally and emotionally before acting out. You want to make sure you are coming from the heart center and not acting out of the rawness of bitterness or resentment. Bitterness, jealousy and resentment, are strong feelings that must be honored, processed, understood and allowed to sink into one's being and transformed into more productively powerful energy as it is redistributed and re-expressed.
Everything is being accelerated. I heard a quote from Fareed Zakaria this morning that is very apt: “There are decades when nothing happens and then there are weeks when decades happen.” We are going through one of those weeks, and I would stretch that to the end of the year. Why are these weeks so crazy and full of upheavals? There are several reasons and I’ve outlined the overview of the year in many previous articles that you can read on this blog but the big thing right now is Pluto. The pandemic degree occurred on the 1/12/20 conjunction of Saturn and Pluto at 22.46 Capricorn. That set off 2020 on its chaotic, evolutionary spiral. At the top of October Pluto stationed direct exactly on this pandemic degree, sitting there and moving at a snail’s pace for the next two months. This is like having an elephant sitting on your belly, smothering, suffocating and squeezing the bile out as it explodes through every possible orifice. Just when you think there is no more putrid sludge clogging the drain another piece of fecal matter is ejected, emitted and expunged. The muck spurts, spits, smears and stains anything in its explosive path. The flies and vultures come to fester on the rotting corpses and decaying matter. Saturn and Pluto are spinning around the orb of this degree; Saturn adds pressure while Jupiter expands the intensity of both Saturn and Pluto.
We also have a very unpredictable, chaotic and roller coaster Mercury retrograde whose effects will be felt through the end of November leading up to the Lunar Eclipse. Mercury is in secretive Scorpio opposing truth seeking Uranus. This opposition exposes secrets, dirt, mysteries and financial misdeeds. This aspect throws everything into a tailspin as more and more erratic and unexpected information is shockingly revealed. It’s like a pinball that bounces off one bumper into another, then another and then another because of the constant topsy-turvy information, confusion and general instability. It is mind boggling what continues to come to light on a daily basis. We’re looking to decipher the obfuscated truth through all the smoke and mirrors.
Mars retrograde thrown into the mix says you will run into trouble by fighting in your accustomed way. The usual mode of taking action and demonstrating strength, power and aggression will now backfire. An opposite or more thoughtful tactic is advised that is less about bullying and bluster, and more about being an iron fist in a velvet glove. It’s advisable to find a new ways of expressing Martial forcefulness by reversing tactics and strategies. Therefore, for those who are timid, shy and unassertive the retrograde of Mars may be about getting in touch with your inner warrior and expressing your Yang energy in more blunt, overt and assertive ways.
Don't forget that the Saturn/Jupiter conjunction at 0 Degrees Aquarius at the top of 2021 is ushering in a new era and a new economy. There's an evolutionary world view that involves adapting to new technologies, shifting politics and a radically changed work place. In adapting to the new you can't leave behind what is good about the past. It's important not to make that tragic mistake. There are many groups of people who feel justifiably left behind and it is important to listen to them. Do not ostracize the disenfranchised but give them space and room to grow and adapt into the change. We should whittle away and throw out that which is antiquated, archaic and worn out. Yet, there is much to value in the structures and traditions of the past and they can help to enlighten new ideas. Let's honor that which is noble about the past and let's learn lessons from our not so noble history. There is much to revise and change. Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
I’m singing and taking Yoga classes to recalibrate. Find something that works for you.
Saturn turns direct today and will slowly move forward leaving Capricorn at the end of December when it enters Aquarius for 2.5 years. In the next few months we will see many many changes to our structures, traditions and institutions. The entire year of 2020 has been like a hurricane and now we will get the tail winds coming on the rear end as Saturn finishes up in the last degrees of Capricorn.
The retrograde period of Saturn this year started on May 11 when she had just entered the first degrees of Aquarius. I had mentioned many times that on the retrograde we would be tested, especially in the USA, on just how well we answered the call to awaken in Aquarius to dealing with the pandemic. Our freedom was limited at that time, we had to pull together for the collective and make a monumental humanitarian shift. It became all about the group good rather than the individual. The retrograde of Saturn back into Capricorn demanded a revision and restructuring of our responsibilities in handling the crisis. While Saturn was retrograde it was time for government and society as a whole to implement ways to fix and repair what came into our consciousness with Covid. This station direct will reveal to us just how well we did in taking responsibility. Was the effort a successful one? Saturn will let us know if our report card is full of A's C's or F's or a combination thereof.
The days surrounding this station can be full of lethargy and stagnation but as the Lord of Karma starts to slowly move forward in October we will see just what it is we have reaped. Saturn is only one of the players but he is responsible for showing us how well we are doing on the material plane. What have we achieved, how honest are we in the push for success and are we worthy of a major payoff or a fall from grace?
Pluto will station direct in a few days time as well and the combination of Saturn and Pluto moving forward can bring revelations as secrets are uncovered and hidden motivations are revealed. Darkness is brought to light and also on the flip side great consolidation of power can happen at this time. We will see both.
The next couple of weeks through mid-October are going to be very intense and conflict driven. The pandemic degree of 22° 46 Capricorn that was established at the Saturn/Pluto conjunction at the top of 2020 is about to be triggered by transiting retrograde Mars, exact on October 8 and the station direct of Pluto on October 4 . Both those planets will hit the degree exactly while Jupiter catches up in November and Saturn hovers just beyond still exerting its influence of trying to keep law and order in traditional ways.
Pluto continues to uncover the dark, underbelly of our society and Mars can actively trigger anger and violence based upon what is being revealed and a feeling of injustice. In the past few days the Breonna Taylor verdict was handed down and in many quarters there is a sense of anger over justice not being served fairly. On August 2nd I wrote an article about the Mars retrograde. I said that when Mars starts the precise retrograde from September 9 through November 14 the implementation of making changes to what has been brought to light will deepen. It will be the continued fight to actually make those changes. It will be the time when we see if the murderers of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor are brought to justice. It will be the time when we see just how far those that want to defund the police will achieve their goals. It will be a time to see how far the Black Lives Matter movement can evolve and any of the myriad and dizzying changes that have come to light since the start of 2020 can progress or not. It will be the time when we see how far Covid will ravage our country, its people and the economy. It will be the time when we have a presidential election to decide if there will be a reversal of power. Each side will dig in deeper and be stimulated to fight. The side that feels empowered to initiate a new beginning will start making those changes, while the side resisting change to the status quo will feel a tremendous urge to defend traditions. Mars will stimulate the fight on both sides. It’s a boxing match.
It’s all starting right now and the Breonna Taylor decision, the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the death toll from Covid breaking the 200,000 mark are all coming down as the energy starts to culminate. It’s going to be a rough October so do what you can to stay sane and rational.
This is a very industrious new moon and is an excellent one for getting back to the work grind at full throttle. There is a caveat in that the Moon is void of course from 7:42 am till 2:56 pm (EST) so the benefits of the new moon will be best realized after 3:00 and on Friday. There are ways to be extremely industrious during the void. Use that time to plan, organize, review the details and get your ducks in a row.
The Virgo Sun is in harmonious aspect to Saturn all day and that's one of the best possible aspects in the world for productivity and achievement. Organize and plan during the void implement the action afterwards and on Friday. When the Moon enters Libra in the late afternoon that will help work situations balance out any glitches. It will lessen the grip of control freaks so that they share the work load and responsibility with others who play an equal part in business partnerships. Everyone has a role to play and you must let each contribute their talent in their own way.
This new moon is an entry way for the next two weeks for adjusting to new school, health and work routines. Many people have to make enormous changes to their daily grind which is now being launched. For the next two weeks, and in the bigger picture the next two months, it will be a testing ground as to which new routines work and which don't. Nothing is set in stone and you'll have to be able to adapt and mutate in order to keep productive and move forward. If you don't stay flexible you can break and stagnate which is not a good thing to do in these challenging times.
Sorry to be a negative Nelly, a maligned Anne of Green Gables, a persecuted Pollyanna or a dismayed Dolly Dimple but Labor Day this year should be called Labor Month. Our two malefics, Saturn and Mars, will be in harsh square all month and that means you better get to work being productive and be willing to come up against blocks, obstacles and stop signs. Instead of buckling under the pressure you'll be called upon time and again to solve problems and challenges. If you meet up with the answer NO then you must go back to the drawing board and find creative ways to get a YES answer or at least a compromise.
This is known to be a very harsh aspect but it can instigate great productivity that comes out of tremendous stress and tension. You will be forced to find new solutions to old problems and if you don't then the aspect can make you feel like a failure, but that's because you aren't willing to put in the extra work. And extra work is what is called for. Obviously some situations will be out of your control and you will have to take the loss or setback with a certain amount of pain and dignity. Once you lick your wounds then get slowly back on your feet and find a new way to restructure your place in the material world. It's sort of like setting off on a new, unknown journey and you must find the courage to do battle. You may lose a limb in the process or be cut off at the knee, but you can find strength and resilience in overcoming the obstacle and in some cases buttress the knee and even regrow a better and stronger limb.
That's more or less the general tone for September but the immediate mood for Labor Day Monday is rather lovely as the Taurus Moon makes very harmonious aspects to all the planets currently traveling through Virgo and Capricorn. Enjoy the fruits of your labor to the best of your ability today. Be generous in sharing with others the abundance you've created and worked so hard to achieve.
The Sun enters Virgo today but because the new moon in Leo occurred this past Tuesday there is still more Leo types of "fun in the Sun" times that will linger. Virgo is a sign associated with health, high functioning, precision and can overly worry. Therefore in this time of Covid, with so many people more concerned about their health and others wanting to have some free spirited fun, there needs to be a balance between fun loving, free and easy Leo and protocol, rule-following, critical and picky Virgo. The balance between the two signs can be very beneficial.
A very important part of the Virgo Sun will be figuring out the details and organizing a new daily ritual as so many prepare to go back to school and work. For some that is now, and for others it's after Labor Day - but for all the preparation and organization of the daily routine has to be thought about and planned. Obviously this year there are many changes and adjustments being made to the school and work year. Mars turning retrograde on September 9 initiates a time when all these new plans that are put into action have a two month review process to see if they're working, and if not then they will be changed after November 14. There's also a Mercury retrograde thrown in from October 14 through November 3 that will also be a time of review and adjustment.
The major aspect today is a T-square between the Moon, Mars, Pluto and Saturn. This is not a fun aspect. It can provoke arguments, fights, blocks, delays, repression, anger, violence and a generally oppressive and threatening type of energy. Of course, the benefits of such a dynamic aspect is about massive amounts of focus, concentration and energy put towards solving gargantuan problems but the energy must be used in a focused, organized, determined and steady way. If and when you meet with blocks know how to back off or continue forward and find a new way to solve the challenge or obstruction. You really, really must know how to choose your battle with this T-square. The empty sign is Cancer so the problem and/or solution can be found through family, home, history or looking to the past.
